Case study lead to acquisition of CNC machine at Ohio Rod Products

Over the years it has been common practice for Ohio Rod Products to purchase a majority of its required production tooling from outside suppliers. This has sometimes resulted in extended lead times for new parts, as well as increased down time on certain machines, and inflated inventories of certain maintenance parts. The solution to these issues has been the recent acquisition of a Haas VF2 Vertical Machining Center, which now allows Ohio Rod to manufacture a large percentage of punches, casings, and some heading dies, resulting in more advantageous lead times for a range of parts and the ability to produce low volume maintenance tooling at their discretion. The CNC machine has also enabled Ohio Rod to eliminate outside sourcing of certain precision machined features.

A member of the Elgin Fastener Group, Ohio Rod Products specializes in the production of long length, small diameter headed and threaded fasteners for a wide range of markets, including FHP electric motors, cable and wire reels, skate wheel conveyor systems, and a variety of other industrial fastener applications.
